In 2019 "Intermittent Fasting" was the most searched google term. Why is everyone interested in fasting? Believe it or not, our bodies were not designed to eat six meals a day. I know you've probably been told different. Breakfast is not the most important meal of the day.


The New England Journal of Medicine came out with a study based on 1500 peer reviewed journals and discovered that fasting should be the first line of treatment for Alzheimer, Diabetes, Asthma, MS, and Arthritis. When we take food out of the equation, our bodies start to heal.


A mechanism kicks in that gives us ketones and it begins to repair our brains, brings inflammation down and stops diabetes. At each level of fasting, our body does something more to heal and repair. What are those things?


18 hrs.

If you are able to fast 18 hrs. your cells begin to heal themselves. Your body talks to itself and says, "Hey, where's the food? I need to get stronger." Then the body takes cells that have been slowing us down or turn into cancer and gets rid of them. The body recycles them out of the system and then looks at the usable cells and makes them stronger fixing the intercellular parts. Wow! Amazing!


Also, viruses are unable to replicate, and the pituitary gland and hormones are repaired when we are in a fasted state of over 18 hrs. This kicks the brain and libido up a notch too.

This process is called autophagy and was discovered by a Japanese cell biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2016 for his research on how cells recycle and renew their content.


24 hrs.

MIT did a study on 24 hr. fasting. They discovered that at 24 hrs., our body will reboot and produce intestinal stem cells. Stem cells go throughout the body and repair damage. At 24 hrs. we get a plethora of them in our gut! We know that better food creates a better micro-bio in the gut. Serotonin comes from the gut. Healthy skin starts with micro-bio in the gut. But more important, a 24 hr. fast will change and repair the gut of a person who has been on antibiotics and lost all their good gut micro-bio.
