Yes, I have powdered supplements that I blend with cold water and drink when I need a snack. But I'm not on any regimen or program where a lot of product needs to be purchased monthly to stay fit and healthy. Here's my reasoning.
Some of the exotic ingredients in my drink mix are from other countries. Ensuring the consistency and quality can be an issue. If I suddenly discover my favorite supplement is no longer available for some reason, I'm out of luck. Another reason is that if I lean too hard on drink mixes to supplement my body, I'm not really teaching myself to eat right. I'm relying totally on a company to ensure I have my nutrients. That stops me from thinking about food and how to eat well.
As Dr. Mindy Pelz would say, it doesn't cost anything to fast. Did you know fasting is the quickest way to get our bodies back into good working order? Also, the liver is one of the primary fat burning organs. What should we eat and drink for a healthy liver? Keeping the liver healthy is imperative for the fat loss adventure!
One challenge I see in the ketogenic and fasting movement is that so many things I did in the past, like how I ate, and the toxins I was exposed to, have damaged the liver. This requires intentionality in what I eat and drink to get my liver back in good health. That won't be found in a packaged powder drink mix. It will require the deliberate purchase of ingredients as fresh as possible.
These are some of the reasons I do not depend upon supplements for my health. Lastly, I want to remind us all what fasting does for our bodies:
It causes us to produce ketones
It turns on the intelligence in our cells through atophagy which pushes out infections and viruses
Our petuitary gland and hormones are repaired
Intestinal stem cells reboot. Serotonins come from the gut
Weightloss and lowered blood sugar
Dopamine reset! This is the happiness molecule
I hope you'll join me in a new, healthier lifestyle that doesn't really cost us anything other than a slight sacrifice from food pleasure. But there are pleasures other than food. How we feel and look is just the beginning.
